Protective Covers for Vintage Books

Here is the link for your options for Brodart Mylar fold-on, archival book covers.

There are videos on YouTube uploaded by Brodart. I don't recommend everything they have in their instruction videos from an aesthetic and archival perspective for my personal library, but I do like the instructions on cutting mylar rolls, using their mylar pre-sized covers (both paper-lined and not), and how to fold them and apply them.

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments here!

Sincerely,

Javamom

Here is an example of a mylar, folded cover that I have on one of my vintage books that a friend gave to me years ago.

When you get the covers, how to do put them on? Are they only for books with dust jackets? What about covers for books that don't have dust jackets?

I've never bought the rolls, but there should be instructions with all of these supplies. There is also extra help from previous customers online. It is my understanding that you can cut the rolls to size and fold them under each book cover, even if they don't have dust jackets. I'll do a little more reading up on them to see for sure.

Some of the resources come with paper linings, or you can just buy the mylar alone. If it was me, I'd buy the clear mylar only for my special and gilded, mid-19th to early 20th century vintage books.

I'll also update the post with a photo of one of my other books that has a mylar cover so that you can see it!

Thanks for the questions.

Brodart has other rolls for books without jackets, besides the rolls for books with jackets. I think I'd be more confident in ordering if I could see how you assemble these. Maybe I should not buy the rolls to start with, so I can get the hang of the process first.
